Widely considered the second-best defensive prospect (behind Chase Young) in the 2020 NFL Draft, Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons is expected to step in and make an immediate impact at the NFL level.
Almost unanimously considered a top-10 pick, the real question is whether Simmons finds his way into the top five in a draft loaded with top quarterback prospects. Here's what the experts are predicting for Simmons.
Isaiah Simmons Draft Projection 2020
In his post-free agency mock draft, Todd McShay goes with the projection that has been common for Simmons since early in the offseason. He likes Simmons to go off the board at No. 4 to the New York Giants. Mel Kiper has also released version 3.0 of his mock draft, and he's in the same boat, projecting Simmons to the New York Giants.
Charles Davis, of NFL.com, has the same projection in version 2.0 of his mock draft, with Simmons going No. 4 overall to the New York Giants.
In his post-free agency mock draft on Bleacher Report, Matt Miller doesn't take a contrarian approach, either. Miller has the Clemson standout landing, like all the experts above, with the New York Giants at No. 4.
Luke Easterling, of DraftWire on USA Today, gives us our first dissenting opinion. He has the Giants taking Tristan Wirfs, which leaves Simmons sliding down to the Carolina Panthers at No. 7.
Walter Cherepinsky, of Walter Football, has Simmons going the latest of anyone in this group. Also mocking Wirfs to the Giants, he has the Panthers going with Derrick Brown instead of Simmons. He projects Simmons to go one pick later to the Arizona Cardinals at No. 8.
Isaiah Simmons 2020 NFL Draft Expert Predictions
New York Giants: 4
Carolina Panthers: 1
Arizona Cardinals: 1
The experts aren't quite unanimous, but the trend is clear — Isaiah Simmons to the New York Giants just makes too much sense. He's not the kind of talent you want to pass on when you're rebuilding. If he doesn't go to the Giants, it looks like Simmons will likely slide out of the top-five, and the Panthers and Cardinals make up his other two projected landing spots.
