The Minnesota Timberwolves are set to face the Denver Nuggets on ESPN tonight in a battle between playoff hopefuls.
Minnesota has several injury concerns currently impacting its roster, including center Rudy Gobert. With fellow big man Karl-Anthony Towns out indefinitely, the threat of Gobert missing a game is enough to raise concerns.
Is Rudy Gobert Playing Tonight Against Denver?
Update (5 p.m. ET): Gobert has been ruled out on Wednesday due to his groin injury. Our original story follows below.
The latest update on Gobert's status is he's listed as questionable for Wednesday's contest against Denver due to right groin soreness. He initially suffered the injury on Jan. 14 against the Cleveland Cavaliers and was forced to leave the contest. The Frenchman was then questionable on Monday against his former team before ultimately suiting up, but he then exited that game early as well after tweaking his groin.
It's safe to say Gobert is in major jeopardy of missing the Wolves' matchup with the Nuggets. The big man being pulled from two straight games shows this injury is very difficult for him to play through right now. It'd be no surprise to see Minnesota be cautious with its marquee offseason acquisition and opt to keep him out tonight. We'll update this story once official word comes down.
Rudy Gobert Fantasy Outlook and Prop Bets
FanDuel Sportsbook's NBA odds list the T-Wolves as 8-point underdogs against the Nuggets. However, that line could swing dramatically if Gobert and Anthony Edwards are both sidelined. Even if Gobert does suit up, he likely wouldn't be 100%, which will make life even easier for Nikola Jokic. The MVP candidate has an over/under of 11.5 rebounds tonight, and the -122 odds on the over are a prime target given Minnesota's frontcourt health woes.
Gobert's injury concerns make him too risky of an option to consider in DFS, even at a $7,100 price tag. He's managed to play just 17 minutes combined over his last two games as he struggles to soldier through this groin issue. This makes Naz Reid a top value target at just $5,200 on Wednesday. Reid's seen almost 50 minutes in the past two games with Gobert hobbled, and he's posted 47.8 FanDuel fantasy points during this stretch. The opportunity alone makes him an ideal low-priced target.
