Insider Reveals Mets' Focus Heading Into Trade Deadline

The 2022 MLB All-Star break is nearly here and the New York Mets continue to sit atop the NL East with a 56-34 record. Though things have gone well for the Mets, there's still room to improve and it's expected that they'll be buying ahead of this year's trade deadline.
The Mets were rumored to be in the hunt for Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Luis Castillo, but that's not the case anymore, according to New York Post's Jon Heyman. Instead, the MLB insider says that New York is "more focused on bats at the moment."

Mets Trade Rumors
The Mets are well-rounded on both sides of the ball, recording a 3.69 team ERA (No. 7) while averaging 4.77 runs scored per game (No. 3). Now that Max Scherzer is fully recovered from his injury and Jacob deGrom is right around the corner, it makes sense to pursue another bat.
It was only on Thursday when Heyman was linking the Mets to Kansas City Royals All-Star leftfielder Andrew Benintendi. Even though New York's outfield has been solid, he could still provide a boost on the left side while potentially sliding in as the designated hitter. After all, Benintendi has three home runs and 37 RBIs while batting .317 this year.
If the price to acquire someone line Benintendi is too much, there isn't a shortage of bats out there. Instead, the Mets could pivot their attention to someone like the Arizona Diamondbacks' David Peralta or Washington Nationals switch-hitter Josh Bell.
The Mets are already seen as 2022 World Series contenders and another legitimate bat could put them over the top. For now, New York has +750 odds (No. 4) to win the championship this fall, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
