Indians Get Good News on Shane Bieber Injury Update

The Cleveland Indians' playoff hopes were just about crushed when starting pitcher Shane Bieber went down with a shoulder injury in early June.

Fortunately, it looks like the ace in on track to return before the end of the season and is set to throw his first bullpen session this upcoming weekend.

This will be Bieber's first mound work since he went down with what was diagnosed as a right shoulder strain. It is a major step up from the long-toss catch he has been taking part in recently. The 26-ear-old remains on the 60-day injured list, but could make his way back to start some games down the stretch.

The 2020 American League Cy Young winner was enjoying another superb season posting a 7-2 record through 14 starts to go along with a 3.28 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. Overall, Bieber has racked up 130 strikeouts and given up just 33 walks in 90.2 innings pitched this year.

Bieber has stated that his recovery has taken longer than he originally expected because the strain occurred in his rotator cuff. His goal is to rejoin the major league squad in early-to-late September and take back the No. 1 spot in the rotation.

The Indians need a pitching boost if they want any shot at making a run for the playoffs as they currently sit 9.0 games back of the Boston Red Sox for the second AL Wild Card spot. Cleveland currently has odds set at +40000 to win the American League pennant, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
