Hunter Henry is one of the best all-around tight ends in the NFL when he's healthy. And he finally stayed healthy for the most part in 2020, playing in 14 games.
Still just 26 years old, the tight end will be hitting free agency this offseason and should be in line for a sizable deal. Here are the three most likely destinations for the Los Angeles Chargers' tight end.
3. New England Patriots
The New England Patriots might be the most TE-needy team in the league. Since losing Rob Gronkowski, the Patriots have gotten virtually no production from the position. Adding Henry would fix that in a hurry, and he'd likely be a fixture in New England for a while given his age. He's also a great blocker, and that versatility should make him extremely attractive to Bill Belichick, who famously values versatility.
2. New York Jets
The New York Jets are projected to have the second-most cap space in the league, and they need to fill it by adding some talent to this offense. The Chris Herdnon experience clearly isn't working out at tight end. And whether it's Sam Darnold or a rookie QB like Justin Fields at the helm, having a great safety blanket at TE would help any young passer. Adding Henry and some talent at WR would be a great way to overhaul this skill-position group.
1. Los Angeles Chargers
Still, Henry just staying put would make a ton of sense. The Chargers have the seventh-most available cap space in 2021, per Spotrac, and Henry leaving would create a huge hole at the position in Los Angeles. At 26, Henry fits 22-year-old QB Justin Herbert's timeline perfectly. Los Angeles should be going all out to keep the talented tight end.
