The Charlotte Hornets' backcourt took a massive hit on Monday after superstar LaMelo Ball went down with a left ankle sprain. Though it appears Ball has avoided anything major, he is expected to miss some time to begin the year.

With Ball on the mend, Charlotte has added some guard depth before the season-opener.

The Hornets are signing Theo Maledon to a two-way deal, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. Maledon was waived earlier this week by the Houston Rockets after being traded by the Oklahoma City Thunder, and Charlotte moved quickly to scoop him up.

Maldeon was traded to OKC during the 2020 NBA Draft via the Philadelphia 76ers. He carved out a solid role over two seasons for the Thunder, averaging 23.2 minutes, 8.8 points, 2.9 assists and 2.9 rebounds across 116 games (including 56 starts).

The French guard boasts nice size at 6-foot-4, and he still has untapped potential at just 21 years old. His decent production for the Thunder shows he's a nice depth piece at the very least. He could earn some run for the Hornets in the early going with Ball sidelined and Dennis Smith Jr. as the only other true PG on the roster.

Ahead of the 2022-23 season, Charlotte is +24000 to win the championship, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NBA Finals odds.
