The New Orleans Saints' Week 17 victory over the Carolina Panthers kept their playoff hopes alive heading into the season finale. New Orleans will need some help, but there's still a real chance that they clinch a playoff spot on Sunday.
Given the seeding already in place for the NFC playoff bracket, New Orleans knows its path to a potential Super Bowl appearance.
Saints Playoff Scenarios
New Orleans can clinch its playoff spot with a win against the Atlanta Falcons and a loss by the San Francisco 49ers in Week 18. If those two things happen, the Saints would make the postseason, but the highest seed they can get is No. 7.
In this scenario, the 49ers' defeat in the season finale would come at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams, who would then lock up the No. 2 seed in the NFC. That would then lead to the Saints facing the Rams in the 2-seed vs. 7-seed matchup in the first round.
Should New Orleans win in the Wild Card, they'd then be guaranteed to face the Green Bay Packers, who would draw the lowest remaining seed in the Divisional Round as the NFC's top team. The Saints would then head on the road for the NFC Championship if they beat the Packers.
New Orleans faces a gauntlet to the Super Bowl, but it's good to know the path at least. They'll need to take care of business in Week 18 against the Falcons, then hope the Rams go hard after the No. 2 seed and defeat the 49ers.
The Saints have +16000 odds to win the Super Bowl LVI, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
