After missing out on the playoffs for the last four seasons, the San Francisco Giants are gearing up for a postseason push in 2021. At 46-26, the Giants currently sit alone atop the NL West, 2.0 games ahead of the second-place Los Angeles Dodgers. There's no question that having as much healthy depth as possible goes a long way when it comes to a push towards the playoffs. Fortunately for the Giants, it's looking like they'll get another warm body back in just over a week.

Infielder Tommy La Stella has been out of the Giants lineup since May 2nd with a hamstring strain. However, San Francisco got good news on Tuesday as it was announced that the former All-Star is finally set to begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento.

Tommy La Stella Injury Update

Regardless of how good he looks during his rehab assignment, La Stella isn't eligible to rejoin the Giants until July 2, which would be in time for the second game of a four-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

After moving around the league over the last few seasons, La Stella signed a three-year, $18.75 million contract with the Giants back in February. Up until getting injured, he was having one of his slower starts to date, recording a single home run and 5 RBIs in 68 at-bats. He was also slashing .235/.297/.353, which is well below his career average of .272/.347/.402. Hopefully, he's managed to get back on track over the last two months or so and will look like his old self at the plate.

La Stella and the rest of the Giants have a lot of work to do if they want to ensure that their club wins the NL West at the end of the season. Despite leading the division, FanDuel Sportsbook has set their odds to win the NL West at +650 — ranking behind the Dodgers (-250) and San Diego Padres (+280).
