Giants Named Potential Trade Fit for Veteran Starting Pitcher

The NL West is one of baseball's toughest divisions, and nobody knows that more than the San Francisco Giants. A 33-26 record has the Giants sitting third in their division, leaving them looking for extra help ahead of August's trade deadline.
The injury bug has been pestering San Francisco's starting rotation as of late, leaving that was one of their main areas to improve. One starting pitcher that MLB.com's Mark Feinsand see the Giants potentially targeting is Texas Rangers southpaw Martin Perez.

San Francisco Giants Trade Rumors
The Giants have multiple pitchers on their injured list, including the likes of Jakob Junis, Alex Cobb and Anthony DeSclafani. Targeting a reliable veteran like Perez makes sense if San Francisco doesn't want to miss a beat until their other starters are healed.
After brief stints with the Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox, Perez returned to the Rangers this season. He's been nothing short of Texas' ace thus far, pitching to a 4-2 record with a 2.18 ERA in 12 starts.
Assuming he continues down this path, it's shaping up to be a career year for the 31-year-old. He leads the Majors with 0.2 home runs allowed per nine innings while also posting career-highs when it comes to WHIP (1.103) and hits per nine (7.7).
Perez is set to become a free agent at the end of the year, so his asking price shouldn't be anything astronomical. Nevertheless, demand will only increase if he keeps pitching well, meaning the Giants must try to pull off a deal sooner than later.
Giants World Series Odds
FanDuel Sportsbook is currently giving the Giants +4000 odds (T-No. 13) to win the 2022 World Series. Adding Perez to the mix somewhere down the line would help to improve those odds.
