The New York Giants made one of the bigger splashes in all of 2021 NFL free agency when news broke of the G-Men signing former Detroit Lions wide receiver Kenny Golladay to a massive 4-year, $72,000,000 contract.
While that price brings quite the sting at first glance, especially for a player who missed much of last season due to injury, there could be a lot more to the size of that deal than Golladay performing at or above his own expectations in New York.
One intriguing wrinkle to this new Golladay contract situation could be very well be rooted in the idea that his presence will also help evaluate the Giants' former No. 6 overall pick in QB Daniel Jones.
Jones has shown flashes of high potential, but inconsistency and a problem with turnovers has marred what could have been so far in New York for the QB as he enters his third year with the team.
Hopefully, Golladay's presence not only elevates Jones' play from the QB position, but can also give the Giants' front office a much better picture of his legitimacy and future with the team, especially as he approaches his 2023 fifth-year option with New York.
