George Kittle Has Honest Answer to Garoppolo-Lance QB Competition

The San Francisco 49ers don't have clarity at starting quarterback despite drafting Trey Lance with the No. 3 overall pick. Analysts seem to agree that Lance could use a year or two to develop, but Jimmy Garoppolo's future under center is unclear and the rookie could unseat the veteran if Niners brass likes what it sees from the rookie.
Star tight end George Kittle believes Garoppolo won't shy away from the competition.

Kittle says that he's "very excited" to see Jimmy G take the field and thinks he'll embrace the chance to prove he's the team's best option at QB. The tight end says even the threat of losing his job will help push Garoppolo to elevate his game.
"If my starting quarterback was afraid of competition, I don't know if he'd be my starting quarterback ... competition is what makes you a good football player."
- George Kittle
Kittle's honest reaction isn't surprising at all. NFL players know very well that any slacking or miscues can cost them a job on rosters loaded with guys waiting for their chance.
It's also not shocking to see Kittle encourage Jimmy G ahead of a possible QB battle. He's been nothing but supportive of his current starter and has shown no desire to break their relationship up.
All eyes will be on San Francisco's QB situation this offseason ahead of the 2021-22 campaign as they hope to make it back to the Super Bowl.
