The Las Vegas Raiders decided to break it all down this offseason and go through a coaching overhaul. The front office has hired Dave Ziegler as general manager and Josh McDaniels as head coach. Of course, both men worked with the New England Patriots during the last decade.
Las Vegas heads into the offseason with work to do in order to keep up in a tough AFC West division. Fortunately, they are projected to have quite a bit to cap space to work with. With that in mind, here are three free agents the Raiders should sign to build around starting quarterback Derek Carr.
Las Vegas Raiders Free Agency
1. Davante Adams, WR, Green Bay Packers
It's hard to cover possible Raiders free agent pursuits without mentioning wide receiver Davante Adams. The two-time All Pro pass-catcher may be looking to join a new team after posting over 1,300 yards in three of his last four seasons. Adams has also scored a whopping 47 times during that span. The pairing between Carr and Adams just makes too much sense here. The two NFL pros played together at Fresno State and have a friendship that goes beyond the sport of football. Keep in mind that Hunter Renfrow was the only player to log 1,000 receiving yards for the Raiders this season despite the fact that Carr threw for 4,804 yards (No. 5 in NFL). Adams would take this passing attack to a whole other level.
2. Brandon Scherff, OG, Washington Football Team
One of the top priorities heading into the offseason should be finding help up front to protect Carr in the pocket. The 30-year-old signal-caller was sacked 40 times this past season, which tied as the fifth-highest mark in the NFL. Las Vegas could go all-in on solving the issue by signing Brandon Scherff. The four-time Pro Bowler has shined with the Washington Football Team over the seven seasons, but may be looking for a new start. Scherff would become an immediate starter for the Raiders and someone McDaniels can rely on to keep Carr upright in the backfield. After all, Scherff didn't give up a single sack during the 2021 NFL season. His continued dominance should make him a top target for Ziegler.
3. Will Fuller, WR, Miami Dolphins
This signing has nothing to do with whether or not the Raiders are able to sign Adams. Instead, it has everything to do with taking a chance on a player that could pay off in a big way. Injuries derailed Will Fuller's 2021 season with the Miami Dolphins as he appeared in just 65 offensive snaps. That means he could be looking to sign another short-term prove-it deal in the offseason. Las Vegas lines up as a perfect landing spot given the team's need of a deep threat WR. Meanwhile, Fuller has been a part of 12 different 40-plus yard passing plays in his six-year career. It's a win-win for both sides.
