The Indianapolis Colts have re-tooled their offense this season, with moves highlighted by the signing of Philip Rivers and drafting of Jonathan Taylor.
Listening to head coach Frank Reich, though, it's not one of these new guys that he seems to think is going to be the breakout player in the offense. It's third-year receiving back Nyheim Hines.
Reich has already described Marlon Mack and Taylor as a "1-1 punch" in the backfield, but recently his praise has turned to Hines. In a recent interview he went as far as to compare Hines to Danny Woodhead, referencing the time Woodhead caught 80 passes in Reich's San Diego Chargers offense. And of course, Woodhead's QB for that performance? Philip Rivers.
A solid receiving role would be nothing new for Hines, who has 107 catches through two NFL seasons, but an 80-reception year would top his career best by 17. Last season only three running backs (Christian McCaffrey, Austin Ekeler and Alvin Kamara) caught at least 80 passes.
Colts fans have to be excited about this new-look offense. The 2020 season is shaping up to be a good one in Indy.
