After opening as the co-favorite to win the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup, and having the best odds to win prior to the tournament, Team USA has somehow fallen to the second-best odds (+260), behind Team France (+230), according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
Despite Team USA blowing out Thailand in its record-setting 13-0 win on Tuesday, and the team's odds improving from +300 to +260, the USWNT was leapfrogged as the favorite by host-country France. Team France opened group play with a 4-0 victory over South Korea.
Team USA's 13-0 victory marked the most lopsided game in Women's World Cup history with Alex Morgan leading the charge, scoring five goals against Thailand. It was a true domination, as the U.S. not only overwhelmed Thailand on the scoreboard, but they also controlled possession for 73 percent of the contest.
The US team will be back to action on Sunday, June 16, against Chile, who lost its first match, 2-0, to Sweden. France plays later today, June 12, against Norway, who is coming off a 3-0 victory over Nigeria.
With the group round just getting underway, the fight between USA and France for the title of Women's World Cup favorite is sure to heat up as they move toward the knockout stage of the competition.
