Former Broncos Pro Bowler Announces Retirement
One of the more recognizable NFL players from the last decade is walking away from the game, as former Denver Broncos Pro Bowl wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders announced his retirement from the league on Wednesday.
Sanders wore five different uniforms over his 12-year career, but he's mostly known for his time with Denver. That's why it's fitting that he chose to announce his retirement as a Bronco.
Emmanuel Sanders Retirement
Sanders played 78 games from 2014-2019 in a Broncos jersey. He caught 404 passes for 5,361 receiving yards and 28 touchdowns over that span, counting for over half his career numbers in all three categories. He was also named to the Pro Bowl in 2014 and 2016 while winning Super Bowl 50 between those campaigns.
Sanders was still decent last year, tallying over 600 yards and four scores in 14 games with the Buffalo Bills. However, the 35-year-old clearly wants to end his career on a high note rather than risk a down year or potential injury. The Bellville, TX native ends his career with 9,245 receiving yards and 51 touchdowns on 704 catches over 172 career games.
While Sanders has accomplished a lot in his career, one thing that stands out to him is his bond with the Broncos faithful. He told the organization's Twitter team that he always loved to see the "fans going crazy" before giving them fist-bumps after a big play.
At the end of the day, Sanders has a lot to be proud of. A three-time 1,000-yard wideout, he accomplished his dream and got to do a lot of that in front of a crowd that was head-over-heels for him.
Considering how beloved Sanders is in the Mile High City, Denver fans likely won't forget his impact any time soon.
