The 2022-23 NBA season is in full swing. If you need some advice on your FanDuel fantasy basketball lineup for tonight's slate, The Duel is here to help.
Here are three players to target and two to avoid in Monday, 1/9, NBA DFS action.
NBA DFS Picks Tonight 1/9/2023
Nikola Jokic Fantasy
Target Nikola Jokic, C, Denver Nuggets ($11,400): Nikola Jokic is on an absolute tear this season and coming off of a triple-double his last time out. He's in a great spot to keep things going against the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday. LA gives up the fourth-most points per game and fifth-most rebounds, which should make things even easier for the stat-sheet-stuffing big man. The Lakers also play at the fastest pace in the league, creating even more possessions and opportunities for Jokic to capitalize on.
Russell Westbrook Fantasy
Target Russell Westbrook, PG, Los Angeles Lakers ($8,500): We'll stick in that same game and target another player on a roll in Rusell Westbrook. The former MVP has stepped up with Anthony Davis sidelined and posted 46.1, 51.7 and 50.5 FanDuel fantasy points in his last three outings. Now he draws a Denver Nuggets defense that ranks seventh worst in defensive rating, setting the stage for a potential shootout. This matchup features the highest over/under of Monday's slate, and Westbrook figures to be right in the middle of the action.
Tyus Jones Fantasy
Target Tyus Jones, PG, Memphis Grizzlies ($5,200): Ja Morant's absence on Sunday opened up a huge opportunity for Tyus Jones, and he took full advantage of it. Jones posted 21 points, 6 assists and 4 steals en route to a 43.4-point fantasy day. Given Memphis' cautious approach with Morant's thigh issue, the Grizz could sit him again on Monday against the San Antonio Spurs. Jones would be a smash play, especially against a Spurs team that ranks No. 1 in most PPG allowed and No. 3 in most APG given up this season.
Jrue Holiday Fantasy
Avoid Jrue Holiday, PG/SG, Milwaukee Bucks ($7,900): Jrue Holiday hasn't gotten a chance to play his normal complement of minutes since returning from his illness-related absence. Holiday saw just 18 minutes in his first game back, then sat out one contest and returned to see 19 minutes in a blowout. The All-Star guard has recorded just 27.4 fantasy points over his first two outings back on the floor, leaving a lot to be desired. The risk involved with playing Holiday right now is simply much larger than the potential rewards.
Julius Randle Fantasy
Avoid Julius Randle, PF/C, New York Knicks ($10,100): Julius Randle's hot streak may come to an end tonight. The Milwaukee Bucks own one of the league's best defenses, ranking No. 8 in fewest PPG allowed and boasting the third-best defensive rating in the league. Randle's already struggled against Milwaukee this season, posting just 32 points and 7 assists combined while shooting 32.4% from the field across two previous meetings in 2022-23. He seems more likely to disappoint than impress at this price tag.
