The 2021 NFL Draft is quickly approaching and there have already been multiple trades within the top-10 overall picks. With the top three teams seemingly locked into their spots, the Atlanta Flacons become an intriguing team to watch with the No. 4 overall pick.

Atlanta is reported interested in trading down in the first round given the return is of high value. The Falcons are widely projected to take a quarterback with that pick, but could easily lean on veteran Matt Ryan for a few more years and build a core around him. That opens up the possibility of a trade.

Atlanta Falcons Trade Down

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer reported that the Falcons have had exploratory talks with other teams regarding a trade. Acquiring additional draft capital wouldn't be such a bad idea for a team that doesn't have an immediate need to fix in the backfield.

Quarterback needy teams are likely to offer a huge package in order to move up and the Falcons would still be able to grab an elite prospect in the first round. However, it isn't very likely the Falcons pick this high again in the next few years. Taking a quarterback to develop behind Ryan could help the team out more than expected.

Obviously, this isn't an easy decision to make. New GM Terry Fontenot could make a major splash in his first draft with Atlanta and change the future of the franchise. No matter what, this is going to be a storyline to keep an eye on all the way up until the Falcons are on the clock at the end of April.
