After just one short and underwhelming season, Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Ed Donatell has been fired. The team did win 13 games under new head coach Kevin O'Connell but allowed the fifth-most points in football.

Donatell released a heartfelt goodbye to the organization on Friday.

Vikings Fire Defensive Coordinator

He sends special thanks to Minnesota's players and coaches, in addition to the "extraordinary fans." "All the best to the Vikings as they move forward with all the positive momentum from this season. Best of luck," said Donatell.

A long-time coach with 31 years of experience in the NFL, this was Donatell's fifth stint as a defensive coordinator in the pros. He joined Minnesota after three years working with the Denver Broncos following previous stops with the Washington Football Team, Atlanta Falcons and Green Bay Packers.

Minnesota will likely act quickly to find a replacement, especially with so many other teams in the market for new coordinators as well.
