The Philadelphia Eagles are gearing up for a division battle against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 16. The major story both sides have been watching this week is the health of Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, who's nursing a shoulder sprain that could keep him out of this contest.
Philadelphia has now made an official decision on Hurts' status for Saturday.
Jalen Hurts Injury Update
Head coach Nick Sirianni said Hurts will be out for this NFC East clash. Sirianni praised his quarterback for giving it all he could to suit up, but the team believes resting him is the best choice.
No one can blame Philadelphia at all for taking a cautious approach with its MVP candidate. If the division race was tighter, perhaps Hurts would give it a go. Instead, the team needs just one win over its last three games to lock up the NFC East title and the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.
Throwing Hurts out there banged up is a simply unnecessary risk, no matter how sweet a win over the Cowboys would be. Now backup Gardner Minshew will get another chance to start under center for Philly. He filled in twice last year for Hurts, including in Week 17 against Dallas. The former Jacksonville Jaguars starter threw for 186 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception in that meeting, which the Cowboys won in a 51-26 rout.
FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds list the Eagles as 4-point road underdogs with Minshew leading the offense against a tough Dallas defense.
