The Philadelphia Eagles have opted to keep a developmental quarterback on the active roster in each of the last few seasons and general manager Howie Rosemann is keeping that same plan going in 2022. That player won't be Carson Strong or Reid Sinnett, but rather the recently claimed Ian Book.

Philadelphia Eagles News

Philadelphia claimed Book on Wednesday after he was cut by the New Orleans Saints. The 2021 fourth-round pick started one game as a rookie, completing 12 of his 20 pass attempts for 135 yards and two interceptions in a loss to the Miami Dolphins. He looked improved in the preseason, though.

Across 168 snaps in three contests, Book went 42-of-65 for 315 yards and two touchdowns (two interceptions). The Notre Dame product still showcased a tendency to turn the ball over, but his ability to away from pressure in the pocket was on full display. Book rushed for 121 yards on 18 carries, too.

Book completed 63.8% of his pass attempts for 8.948 yards to go along with 72 touchdowns and 20 interceptions across three college seasons. The 24-year-old's game lines up similarly to Jalen Hurts and now he'll get an opportunity to learn under one of the most dynamic dual-threat QBs in the NFL.

Philadelphia will move forward with Hurts manning the backfield and veteran Gardner Minshew acting as his top backup. Meanwhile, Book gets a second chance to evolve under a new coaching staff. For now, the Eagles have odds set at +2000 to win Super Bowl 57, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
