The Miami Dolphins had a tumultuous 2022 season largely due to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa's controversial concussions. The result was an uneven campaign marked by a hot start and a poor finish that culminated in a first-round playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Tagovailoa took a big step forward last year when he was healthy, but fans are expecting him to take an even bigger one in 2023, and Mike McDaniel's latest comments suggest he will do just that. Not only did Miami pick up Tagovailoa's fifth-year option, but it also made considerable improvements to its roster on both sides of the ball.

When asked about Tua's offseason and upcoming campaign, McDaniel said:

"He's doing great. He's had a really good offseason with his family and training and positioning himself to feel good moving forward. He's very healthy, vibrant, and I can see a hunger in him that I'm excited to watch play out."

There has been speculation about whether or not the Dolphins viewed Tagovailoa as their franchise QB since McDaniel took over last offseason, but he's supported Tagovailoa at every turn and his actions have followed his words thus far.

Tagovailoa was one of the greatest collegiate quarterbacks of all time and is now entering his fourth season in the NFL. He's also coming off his best statistical season by far after throwing for over 3,500 yards, 25 touchdowns, and just 8 interceptions in 13 games. There's no reason to give up on a guy like that unless health continues to be a major concern, and this season should be a good test of whether that's the case or not.

For now, everyone seems behind Tagovailoa as the Dolphins' guy, and most importantly, that includes his head coach.
