With Clayton Kershaw's return from injury still a question mark in July, the Los Angeles Dodgers were busy at the trade deadline in acquiring Max Scherzer to bolster the rotation. Scherzer adds that same level of veteran, winning mentality to the Dodgers staff - something that has been missing since Kershaw's forearm injury in early July.

Fortunately, Los Angeles got even more good news for their starting rotation on Thursday night. Manager Dave Roberts explained that Kershaw should be ready to return from his current 10-day IL stint "sometime in September."

Clayton Kershaw Injury Update

While the loss of Kershaw for another month may be daunting for some Los Angeles fans, this is still welcomed news. After all, the Dodgers will get their ace pitcher just in time for a pennant race and potential deep October run.

On the year, Kershaw is pitching to a 3.39 ERA and 0.978 WHIP across 18 starts. He's also racked up 127 strikeouts or 10.7 strikeouts per nine innings. Meanwhile, his temporary replacement at the top of Los Angeles' rotation (Scherzer) owns a 2.75 ERA across 20 starts in 2021.

The Dodgers remain 4.0 games out in the NL West standings, but have a firm grasp on the first NL Wild Card spot. Additionally, Kershaw and his crew are the prohibitive favorites to win the 2021 World Series with their +300 odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
