Wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase got both Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns fans stirring when he said it's "on sight" the next time the two teams face off. Cornerback Denzel Ward didn't take too kindly to the comments and posted an epic clap-back on his Instagram story. The rivalry is getting heated.
Cleveland Browns News
It's important to provide all of the context here. Chase appeared on The Pivot podcast on Tuesday and praised Ward as one of the toughest defensive backs he faced as a rookie in the NFL. However, he also mentioned that Cleveland players like to talk a lot of trash and that seemingly bothered Ward.
Ward posted the entire discussion and followed it up by a video that said "you come around this way, you will get caught." He ended the story with a highlight featuring his 100-yard pick-six against the Bengals in 2021. The two-time Pro Bowler jumped Chase's route near the end zone for a huge play.
Fellow Cleveland cornerback Greg Newsome got in on the action, too. After Chase said the second-year pro is "not elite", he posted a few emojis on his Instagram story. They represented the phrase "on sight" and were linked with a laughing face at the end. It was a subtle jab, but a noteworthy one at that.
It's safe to say neither one of these teams are very fond of the other. The Bengals hold the all-time series lead, 51-46, yet it's the Browns that have emerged victorious in each of the last four head-to-head matchups. These NFC North rivals will meet in Weeks 8 and 14 of the 2022 regular season.
