The St. Louis Cardinals' victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night marked an important milestone for veteran starting pitcher Jon Lester. With the victory, Lester recorded his 200th career win, a baseball milestone becoming increasingly more rare.
Following the victory, Chicago Cubs manager and former legend David Ross took to Instagram to congratulate his former teammate.
"Felt weird rooting for the Cardinals tonight! Congrats on 200, Lefthander!! #Lester"- David Ross on Instagram
Despite sitting on opposite sides of this longtime NL Central rivalry, there's a ton of love between Ross and Lester. In fact, when Cubs fans think of the historic 2016 World Series title, one of the first pictures that comes to mind is this duo.
Cubs nation will forever hold Lester and Ross in a special place. Lester was brilliant in the 2016 World Series, pitching in three games (two starts) with a 2.02 ERA that postseason run, including 3.0 innings of one-run baseball in the decisive Game 7.
Ross, the current manager of the Cubs, hit an important home run in that series and the pair share a ton of history. In fact, Ross leads all other catchers in innings caught from Lester (578.2) with a 2.75 ERA together.
Monday night was a special moment for Lester, made that much more important thanks to the kind words from his longtime teammate.
