Dante Pettis was generating a ton of buzz last offseason. Unfortunately, he didn't come anywhere close to delivering on that hype. He totaled just 24 targets last season, catching 11 passes for 109 yards.

But the San Francisco 49ers' receiving corps has since been decimated by injuries. With Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk's status up in the air, Pettis could provide some value in deeper fantasy football leagues or DFS formats as a post-hype sleeper.

Dante Pettis Fantasy Football Outlook

The 49ers face the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1. That's about as good of a matchup as it gets. Arizona was the league's seventh-worst pass defense in 2019, per Football Outsiders' DVOA metrics, and that makes San Francisco's pass-catchers an interesting group to target.

If Deebo and Aiyuk are sidelined, Pettis could slot in as the No. 2 wide receiver alongside Kendrick Bourne, though George Kittle would obviously remain the No. 1 option in the passing game. The reports that Pettis has dominated training camp certainly bode well for the Washington product.

Of course, he'd offer little-to-no Week 1 fantasy value if Aiyuk and Deebo do suit up.

Fantasy managers should monitor this situation closely, as Pettis could be an interesting Week 1 target in deeper leagues and DFS formats if things break right for him.
