The Chicago Cubs are getting an important power hitter back in time for a three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Outfielder Seiya Suzuki was activated from the 10-day injured list on Monday and is slated to hit cleanup for the Cubs after missing the entire month of June with a finger issue.
Seiya Suzuki Injury Update
Suzuki's return comes after starting just two games during a Triple-A rehab assignment. The 27-year-old went 4-for-9 with a home run and two doubles. Outfielder Narsico Crook was optioned as a result as Suzuki joins Ian Happ and Rafael Ortega to create the Cubs' everyday outfield trio moving forward.
This is the update Chicago fans have been anxiously awaiting. Suzuki was one of the team's best hitters before going down, slashing .245/.344/.432 across 41 games (163 plate appearances). He has also tallied 20 runs scored, 12 doubles, 1 triple, 4 home runs, 24 RBI and 3 stolen bases in 2022.
It'll be interesting to see how Suzuki adjusts to facing the best pitchers in the sport again. Prior to the injury, his strikeout rate was beginning to rise and his hard contact rate was beginning to drop. Putting Suzuki in the best spot to make an impact beyond this summer should be a top priority for Chicago.
Suzuki and the rest of the Cubs lineup is slated to take on Milwaukee's Eric Lauer Monday afternoon. Meanwhile, the Cubs will send Justin Steele to the mound with hopes of earning an Independence Day win. Chicago is a +126 underdog on the moneyline, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
