Cubs Get Great News With Kyle Hendricks Injury Update
By Larry Rupp

Another Chicago Cubs starting pitcher went down this week as Kyle Hendricks was placed on the injured list with a right shoulder strain. Keep in mind it's the second time this season he will be missing time. While no timetable has been set up for his return, the latest update does come with great news.
Kyle Hendricks' MRI showed no structural damage and he won't need shoulder surgery, David Ross said.

No timetable, though, for his return from right shoulder strain. Pitching coach Tommy Hottovy said they'll get better idea of Hendricks' timeline when Cubs return home after LA.
Kyle Hendricks Injury Update
Hendricks' MRI came back showing no structural damage, meaning he will not need to undergo shoulder surgery. A return to the field this season is certainly not being ruled out. Pitching coach Tommy Hottovy said the team will have a better idea of a recovery timeline when they get back home.
The 32-year-old left his most recent start after only three innings (69 pitches) and told reporters after the game that he was experiencing discomfort the entire time. He ended up allowing a pair of earned runs on two hits and two walks. Righty Anderson Espinoza was called up to take his roster spot.
It's been an up-and-down season for Hendricks this summer. He has allowed either one run or fewer or five runs or more in 10 of his 16 starts. Overall, he owns a 4-6 record to go along with a 4.80 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. The nine-year pro has also racked up 66 strikeouts in 86.1 innings pitched.
It'll be interesting to see if Hendricks' injury impacts his trade value at all as the August deadline nears closer. After all, he only has one guaranteed year left on his contract. For now, the Cubs remain long shots to win the World Series with odd set at +5000000, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
