Despite a decade of overwhelming success, Andy Reid is 64 years old and the third-oldest current active NFL coach. Football fans are smart and always thinking ahead, so naturally Chiefs fans have thoughts of a potential Reid successor in the back of their minds.

Reid maintains his desire and ongoing passion to continue coaching, but Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network has reported on a potential successor when Reid does eventually retire. The name is uninspiring, to say the least.

Chiefs Rumors

According to one of Wilson's sources, senior assistant and quarterbacks coach Matt Nagy is the most likely option.

“Matt is someone that Andy has a lot of confidence in, and he’s highly respected by the entire organization. I could see this happening in a few more years. For now, Andy is all in with what he’s doing, and I don’t foresee a change during the offseason," according to Wilson's report.

Chiefs News

Going from Reid, who touts an incredible .709 winning percentage with 1 Super Bowl title and 9 playoff wins during his Chiefs tenure, to Nagy, who owns a career record just three games over .500 without a single playoff victory is a head scratcher.

Nagy was run out of Chicago after four underwhelming seasons with the Bears. He went 8-8 in two of his four seasons before a 6-11 campaign cost him his job.

The encouraging aspect of this rumor is Nagy's experience working with Reid. Outside of his Bears tenure, Nagy's spend the entirety of his professional coaching career as one of Reid's top assistants. This included a quality control role with the Philadelphia Eagles and the offensive coordinator job in Kansas City.

For now, Reid isn't going anywhere, and that means the Chiefs have a legitimate shot at Super Bowl contention. FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds show Kansas City with the second-best odds (+800) to win Super Bowl 57.
