Last offseason, Carlos Rodon signed a two-year $44 million contract with the San Francisco Giants which included a player opt-out clause after one year. After putting up a stellar season in 2022 that saw him go 14-8 with a 2.88 ERA, Rodon officially exercised that option to become a free agent on Sunday.

Carlos Rodon Free Agency

As one of the top starting pitchers available on the free agent market, coming off a great season, Rodon will have plenty of potential suitors willing to give him a raise in both contract value and length.

Big players like the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Dodgers could all be in on Rodon and there are definitely more teams that will throw their best foot forward, especially if Justin Verlander or Jacob deGrom decide to re-sign with the Astros and Mets, respectively.

Still just 29 years old, Rodon turned into a star in 2021 with the Chicago White Sox, pitching to a 13-5 record with a 2.37 ERA. Continuing that in 2022 only makes Rodon that much more valuable on the open market.

With free agency set to begin this week and the Winter meetings just a few weeks away, Rodon and his agent could soon be very busy.
