As the 2022 World Series continues, teams like the St. Louis Cardinals have gotten a jumpstart on their offseason. The Cardinals were once again busy on Friday, making a couple of changes to the 40-man roster.

The Cardinals announced that they have outrighted infielder Kramer Robertson and right-handed pitcher Kodi Whitley to Triple-A Memphis. That means they're removed from the 40-man roster but will still be paid their guaranteed contract.

St. Louis Cardinals Roster Moves

With injured players needing roster spots in the offseason and free agency opening up shortly, it isn't a shock to see the Cardinals opening up spots on the team.

Robertson split the 2022 campaign between the Cardinals, Atlanta Braves and New York Mets. The former 2017 fourth-rounder was decent in 116 Triple-A contests, racking up 11 home runs, 47 RBIs, 30 stolen bases and 84 walks while slashing .239/.393/.363. His efforts eventually led to him making his MLB debut with the Cards, however, he only played two games.

Meanwhile, Whitely's up-and-down tenure with the Cardinals continued this season. Making 14 relief appearances, the Clayton, NC native went 2-0 with an underwhelming 5.68 ERA. However, he did show potential by completing five games. With the right offseason tuning, it won't be a shock if he's one of St. Louis' early call-ups in 2023.

While Robertson and Whitely wonder what's next in their careers, the Cardinals turn their attention to the upcoming free agency period. Players are free to sign with new teams after the five-day "Quiet Period" begins once the World Series ends, making it interesting to see what general manager Mike Girsch has in his bag of tricks.
