It wasn't a stellar 2020 season for Cam Newton and the New England Patriots. There are questions regarding Newton's ability to play at a high level and New England may want to secure a long-term starting QB this offseason via trade or the NFL Draft.

However, there's a chance for the two sides to reunite, and Newton at least seems on board with the idea.

Newton's glowing comments on head coach Bill Belichick are intriguing. Most would expect an outgoing personality like Newton to clash with his much more reserved head coach, yet that doesn't appear to be the case at all. There might not be anyone on the planet who has called Belichick a "cool due" before, but Newton seems to genuinely mean it.

The quarterback's praise can be seen as him advertising to the Patriots that he's willing to come back. And with New England abstaining from a trade for Matthew Stafford or Carson Wentz, the available QB market is shrinking.

It's possible the two sides re-up for another season if neither has better options. Newton may not have many starting opportunities, and New England may not find its franchise QB this offseason, so giving it a second go may ultimately make sense.
