Fantasy baseball is not without its surprise performers and big-name players going through uncharacteristic cold streaks. However, that kind of production typically only lasts for so long. Slumping stars usually turn things around for the better while marginal players in the middle of a hot streak will undoubtedly cool off sooner rather than later.
And fantasy owners know that it's all about buying low and selling high on players in season in order to get an upper hand on their opponents. With that in mind, here are four players to consider acquiring or trading off your fantasy roster.
Buy Low: Rougned Odor, 2B, Texas Rangers
Rougned Odor has had a rough first two months this season, but if history is any indication, things are bound to turn around for the second baseman. Odor owns a .282/.305/.511 career slash line June and July across six Major League seasons, making him a prime rebound candidate as we make our way into the dog days of summer.
Sell High: Austin Riley, 3B, Atlanta Braves
Austin Riley has been mashing for the Braves since being called up last month, owning a 1.038 OPS with eight homers in just 17 games in the Majors. The rookie third baseman's 35.2 percent strikeout rate could lead to a significant regression once pitchers figure out how to handle him, making him a high-value, sell-high candidate, especially if you're going for it this season in a dynasty league. Consider trading Riley for an instant upgrade, and worry about next year next year.
Buy Low: Alex Verdugo, OF, Los Angeles Dodgers
He may not have the kind of power most would want out of a fantasy outfielder, but Alex Verdugo has been one of the most consistent bats in baseball this season. The 23-year-old owns a .342 batting average over his past 23 at-bats and should provide some solid steals value going forward. He looks primed for a hot streak, hitting in the meat of a potent Dodgers' lineup.
Sell High: Renato Nunez, 1B/3B, Baltimore Orioles
Renato Nunez has been on an absolute tear since the middle of May, slashing .322/.394/.814 with eight homers and 16 RBI across 66 plate appearances. However, Nunez is a very streaky hitter, as he slashed just .083/.083/.083 in the first half of the month. Fantasy owners should take advantage of Nunez's unreal production right now and sell high before his production begins to decline.
