Browns Give Update on Baker Mayfield Trade Timeline

The entire NFL world knows a breakup between the Cleveland Browns and quarterback Baker Mayfield is coming. When that takes place is a different story, though, given most QB-needy teams around the league have already secured new starters or plan to during the NFL Draft.

Fans are eager to see this situation finally resolved, and Browns GM Andrew Berry recently gave an update on the team's approach to a Mayfield deal.

Cleveland appears content waiting for the best offer, rather than choosing to ship the former No. 1 pick off for a "suboptimal" return.

Though this doesn't provide an immediate resolution, it is the smart approach. The Browns would be forced to sell for pennies on the dollar given the current QB landscape if they traded Mayfield right now.

Instead, Cleveland can see how the draft shakes out and target squads who could still use help under center. There's also the chance an injury in OTAs or training camp suddenly makes a team desperate to deal for a starter they can plug in, which could lead to the Browns cashing in.

It's clear Cleveland's brass is approaching an eventual Mayfield trade with the right mindset, and it could pay off with a decent return later this offseason.
