Kevin Stefanski finally has this Cleveland Browns team playing up to its potential. Led by the league's most dominant rushing attack, an elite group of pass-catchers and a quarterback that's doing just enough, this offense appears to be for real.
In fact, Cleveland decimated the Dallas Cowboys' defense to the tune of 49 points in Week 4 thanks in large part to racking up 307 rushing yards – the worst single-game mark in Cowboys' history. With an offense this dangerous, Cleveland looks like a dark-horse Super Bowl contender.
However, their odds to win the Super Bowl, provided by FanDuel Sportsbook, certainly do not reflect that. In fact, they're so low they can only be described as disrespectful.
Cleveland is currently available at +4000 to win it all, giving them the 15th-best odds in the league. That's just one spot ahead of the Chicago Bears (+4800), and puts the team significantly behind the Cowboys (+3000), who the Browns just decimated on the road.
This ranking clearly is not reflective of how good the Browns have been this season. The thing is, there's plenty of reason to believe this team will be even better going forward.
The Browns offensive ceiling is completely tied to Baker Mayfield. He's being asked to do very little right now, as the team is relying on its run game instead of the former No. 1 overall pick. In fact, he's averaging just 28.8 pass attempts per game, the third-lowest among QBs with four starts.
We've seen real flashes of brilliance from this guy before, however, and if there's anyone who can unlock his potential its Stefanski. Remember, Stefanski coaxed a career-best year out of Kirk Cousins last season. Now that he's gone, Cousins suddenly has the league's sixth-lowest passer rating among starters and is on pace for his worst year as a starter.
As Mayfield gets comfortable in Stefanski's offense (his third since entering the league), his efficiency should skyrocket, as Cousins' did last year. Pairing that potential with an already-elite rushing attack makes this Browns team a legit Super Bowl contender. Hopefully their odds begin to reflect that soon.
