The Cleveland Browns wasted no time shaking up their coaching staff right after the 2022 season ended. Defensive coordinator Joe Woods has been let go after his unit struggled mightily throughout the year, ending his three-year run in Cleveland.

Now it turns out the Browns could poach a coach from a division rival to replace Woods as DC.

Cleveland has requested to interview Pittsburgh Steelers linebackers coach Brian Flores, according to multiple reports. Pittsburgh will have to give their rival permission in order for Flores to speak with them, which is far from a guarantee.

Flores landed with the Steelers this offseason as a position coach after his much-publicized exit from the Miami Dolphins. He went 19-14 over his final two years in Miami, including a 10-win campaign in 2020, but was ultimately let go after failing to make the playoffs in three tries.

Before that, Flores rose up the coaching ranks with the New England Patriots. His work in New England directly led to his head-coaching opportunity in Miami despite not having the official title as defensive coordinator for the Pats.

Hiring Flores would be a win-win scenario for Cleveland. Not only would the Browns get one of the most respected defensive minds in the league and a legit head-coaching talent, but it'd also hurt the Steelers in the process. It remains to be seen if Pittsburgh grants them permission to speak with Flores.
