The Denver Broncos have nine picks in the 2021 NFL Draft. But the No. 9 overall selection in the first round is one Bronco's new GM George Paton hopes will be a home run in his first year leading the draft.

There are plenty of clues that Denver is still interested in replacing Drew Lock and targeting a quarterback with its top pick. Paton is planning on attending Ohio State's Pro Day on Tuesday, March 30 for a good look at QB Justin Fields.

The Broncos will also have a strong scouting presence at the second Alabama Pro Day on Tuesday to take another look at QB Mac Jones. Patton has already scouted North Dakota State QB Trey Lance while with the Broncos and Minnesota Vikings. The longtime Vikings executive helped Minnesota acquire 22 Pro Bowl players through the draft, free agency and trades since 2007.

Having a franchise quarterback is the most crucial aspect to building a championship-caliber football team. With quarterbacks Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson widely considered the first two picks of the NFL Draft, the Broncos appear to be targeting one of the other three quarterbacks who may all be selected in the top 10 picks.

Justin Fields is considered by many to be the No. 3 quarterback prospect in the 2021 class. He’s also the only quarterback in this class with two years of 90.0-plus PFF grades (2019-20). But with the San Francisco 49ers trading up to the No. 3 slot in the first round, will it be Fields, Lance or Jones who is next off the board?

The Broncos could try and move up if they fall in love with one QB, but could very well stand pat and select someone that falls into their lap at No. 9.
