Denver Broncos fans have every reason to be excited for the 2020 NFL season. They're coming off a 7-9 season in 2019, but they closed the year 4-1 under Drew Lock, who now enters his first season as a full-time starter.
Peter King's 2020 NFL season power rankings were released on Monday, and he's trying to throw some cold water on the excitement. He has Denver ranked just No. 20 in the NFL.
Broncos NFL Power Rankings
That's a surprisingly low ranking for a team that really seems to be moving in the right direction. The Broncos were already solid on the defensive side of the ball last year, ranking No. 13 in Football Outsiders' DVOA rankings.
On offense they have Drew Lock poised to take a step forward in his sophomore year, and they've surrounded him with a massive amount of talent. Melvin Gordon joins an already dangerous backfield, and Jerry Jeudy was drafted as a complement to Courtland Sutton and Noah Fant in the passing game.
Oddsmakers also seem to be low on Denver for 2020, with FanDuel Sportsbook giving the Broncos just +180 odds to make the playoffs.
Sharing a division with the Super Bowl champions certainly leaves Denver fighting an uphill battle, but this is a team on the rise and Broncos fans can't feel good about this low ranking. Especially while the Las Vegas Raiders have a bafflingly high ranking of eighth.
