The Atlanta Braves have kicked off the month of June with a perfect 10-game winning streak, and the team is firing on all cylinders. It's the longest franchise streak since 2013, and the Braves look to continue that magic on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
One interesting decision manager Brian Snitker made for Sunday's contest is slating backup catcher William Contreras into the lineup. Snitker explained why he believes this gives Atlanta the best chance to continue their streak ahead of the contest.
Braves Winning Streak
Kyle Wright will get the start on the mound, and Snitker wants Contreras to catch because the two have been working so well together lately.
It's a keen observation for Wright's 12th start of the year. Contreras has caught six of Wright's previous 11, and the pair is pitching to a 1.42 ERA in that span, giving up just six earned runs in 38.1 innings pitched.
Wright has been strong all year long, but by comparison, his season ERA stands at 2.39 and he's allowed 12 earned runs in 29.1 innings pitched with Travis d'Arnaud behind the dish. That calculates out to a 3.71 ERA mark.
d'Arnaud has also been dealing with some forearm soreness, which made Snitker's decision that much easier.
