The Miami Dolphins' decision to part ways with head coach Brian Flores sent shockwaves through the NFL early on in the offseason. The reason for the dismissal became more clear when reports detailed that Flores was in a power struggle with GM Chris Grier and the head coach also had a poor relationship with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Now Flores has given his side of the story on the dynamic he had with his QB.
Brian Flores Tua Relationship
Flores went on the I Am Athlete podcast to clear the air. He claims the relationship "wasn't strained" and they were on "good" terms. Flores went on to say both parties challenged each other in what he felt was a normal way.
"It was a player-coach relationship. I think in a relationship like that, the coach challenges the player, and often times, the player challenges the coach."- Brian Flores
He adds that the "crazy narrative" surrounding the two isn't true, and Flores wished Tagovailoa nothing but the best moving forward.
It's good to hear Flores speak on the record about the dynamic. He also encouraged the podcast hosts to invite Tagovailoa on because the former Dolphins coach was confident his ex-QB would share the same perspective.
Hopefully Dolphins fans will get to hear their QB in his own words soon. Flores' strong statements on their relationship could mean nothing if Tagovailoa doesn't see things the same way.
It's also worth noting that incoming head coach Mike McDaniel is excited at the prospect of working with Tua. Hopefully, the two can have a long and fruitful partnership as they via for a playoff appearance in 2022.
