As the 2021 season resumes following the MLB All-Star Break, the Atlanta Braves will continue trying to catch the New York Mets for first place in the NL East. However, that quest has become a bit more difficult as the Braves announced on Friday that right-handed starter Ian Anderson is heading to the injured list.

The Braves placed Anderson on the 10-day IL early Friday morning with what was described as right shoulder inflammation. While this is certainly bad news for Atlanta, the good news is that the injury won't require shoulder surgery and that the placement is retroactive to July 13.

Ian Anderson Injury Update

The Braves have used Anderson's injury as an opportunity to reinstate right-handed pitcher Touki Toussaint off of the 60-day IL. The 25-year-old has yet to make his 2021 MLB season debut due to a shoulder strain. Toussaint appeared in seven games (five starts) for Atlanta last year, finishing with an 0-2 record, 8.88 ERA and 1.767 WHIP.

While Toussaint tries to rebound from last year's poor showing, the Braves will no doubt miss Anderson's presence on the mound. The second-year pitcher has started in 18 games for Atlanta in 2021, pitching to a 5-5 record with a 3.56 ERA and 1.250 WHIP.

The Braves are going to need to do what they can to maintain their championship odds while Anderson is out of the rotation. Atlanta is listed as having +4600 odds (13th) to win this year's World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
