The Yankees weren't the only New York team to bring back a star outfielder in free agency. While the Yankees made headlines earlier this week after re-signing Aaron Judge to a historic contract, the Mets also made a splash by giving Brandon Nimmo a megadeal of his own.

For his part, Nimmo is pumped to be back with his old team.

Mets Brandon Nimmo News

Nimmo, 29, is returning to the Mets after signing an eight-year, $162 million contract on Thursday night. Nimmo has spent his entire career with New York, where he was a first-round draft pick in 2011 before making his MLB debut in 2016.

While Nimmo and the Mets have had their share of ups and downs together, it's not hard to see why he's excited to be back. New York is coming off one of the best seasons in franchise history after winning 101 regular-season games last year -- second only to the championship-winning 1986 Mets. While the team was surprisingly eliminated by the San Diego Padres during the NL Wild Card Round, New York is poised for another strong campaign after landing three-time Cy Young winner Justin Verlander in free agency.

With Verlander and Max Scherzer anchoring the rotation, Edwin Diaz at the back of the bullpen and a lineup featuring Nimmo, Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor, the Mets are absolutely stacked. They have more than enough talent to make a title run and currently have the third-best World Series odds (+900) on FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB odds.
