The NFL's free agency push has resulted in a number of splashes around the league, including names like Brandon Scherff and J.C. Jackson. Not to mention the blockbuster trades of Russell Wilson and Khalil Mack.

Making a free-agent splash may go a long way, but certain signings fly under the radar but prove just as important come January and February of the next season. That's exactly what the Buffalo Bills accomplished on Monday night by signing defensive tackle Tim Settle.

Bills Free Agency

Buffalo signed Settle to a two-year contract between $9-10.6 million after four years with the Washington Commanders.

Tim Settle Bills

Considered a free-agent "steal" in many NFL circles, Settle was highly productive in a depth role for Washington. He owns just two career starts, while appearing in 63 of 65 possible games, but managed to rack up 7 sacks, 54 tackles, and 12 QB hits in a limited role.

Depth is important for Sean McDermott's defensive front. The Bills ranked 11th in sacks (42) a year ago, but only one defender compiled more than 5.0 individual sacks. It's a defensive front built on strong depth and rotations and a perfect fit for the underrated DT with a nose for getting after the quarterback.

Settle finished his 2021 campaign with a solid 70.1 rating from PFF. It wouldn't be surprising to see Settle thrive in Buffalo's system and every member of the 53-man roster is vital for a Super Bowl title. Currently, Buffalo holds top +700 odds to win Super Bowl 57 on FanDuel Sportsbook.
