Bills Insider Reveals One Veteran on the Roster Bubble Heading Into Training Camp
The Buffalo Bills are gearing up for another training camp, hoping that this is the year that the franchise finally wins its first Super Bowl. Rookies and veterans alike will be pushed to their limits to field the best possible roster.
Keeping that in mind, Bills insider Alaina Getzenberg is saying fans should keep their eye on one particular veteran who's heading into training camp on the roster bubble.
Bills Roster Rumors
Getzenberg says that even though Buffalo's roster is nearly set, offensive lineman Greg Van Roten could be on the outside looking in when it comes to the final OL spot. Van Roten predominantly plays on the interior, which is where most of the competition is expected to happen.
Van Roten has been a journeyman throughout his career, with the Bills being the sixth NFL organization he's joined. He spent the 2021 campaign with the New York Jets and didn't miss a game, giving up three sacks on 700 offensive snaps.
Rodger Saffold III and Ryan Bates will likely be the Bills' starting guards this fall, leaving Van Roten fighting for a backup spot. It doesn't help that Ike Boettger is also in his way, as is the fact that Van Roten doesn't play center either.
Getzenberg cites veteran Greg Mancz and rookie Luke Tenuta as Van Roten's biggest competitors for that coveted roster spot. Mancz has a whole season as a starting center under his belt while Tenuta's youth may offer an upside that Van Roten can't bring to the table anymore.
A strong O-line is crucial to quarterback Josh Allen's success next season and if Van Roten shows he has nothing to offer, excess fat must be trimmed. As it stands, the Bills are the current +650 betting favorites to win Super Bowl LVII on FanDuel Sportsbook.
