Mitchell Trubisky has had an interesting NFL career. Once the second overall selection by the Chicago Bears at the 2017 NFL Draft, the 27-year-old quarterback signed a one-year, $2.5 million deal with the Buffalo Bills last season to be Josh Allen's backup.
Even though he was only in Buffalo for a season, Trubisky won over the Bills staff and players alike. In fact, general manager Brandon Beane praised the veteran signal-caller with a hilarious comment on Tuesday.
Buffalo Bills News
When asked Tuesday's press conference about what type of player Trubisky is, Beane described the QB as the "marry-your-daughter" type of guy.
The Bills GM went on to elaborate that Trubisky was professional through his tenure, never once bringing up the controversy during his time with the Bears. Beane added that he hopes the veteran QB gets another chance to compete with a new organization.
While Buffalo would love to have Trubisky back, he'll likely get a lot of offseason attention due to a weak free agent class at the quarterback position. With several teams interested in his services, he'll possibly command a price that the cash-strapped Bills can't afford.
Trubisky has a 29-21 record in 50 starts across five seasons. He's completed 64.1% of his passing attempts, tallying 10,652 yards and 64 touchdowns to 38 interceptions. With the right environment and support cast, he could be a decent starter for a QB-hungry organization — even if he's only a stopgap.
It'll be interesting to see where Trubisky ends up going this offseason. If Beane's comments are any indication, whichever team lands him will not only be getting a solid quarterback but a standout leader as well.
