The New York Yankees successfully forced a Game 5 in the ALDS with a 4-2 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday. The Houston Astros, who've already qualified for the ALCS, certainly didn't mind this development as an extra game works in their favor.

MLB insider Brian McTaggart points out how another game forces the Yankees and Guardians to go through even more pitchers. After all, Game 5 is being played on Monday and the winner will immediately fly to Houston one day later before facing the Astros on Wednesday, leaving little time for rest.

Astros ALCS 2022

The Yankees and Guardians have burned through their fair share of pitchers after four games. Both clubs have used three starters apiece, however, New York has turned to six different relievers while Cleveland has featured eight different bullpen arms.

Game 2 of the Yankees-Guardians series was postponed due to weather, which will also impact rest time. Once game 5 concludes, New York and Cleveland will have played four games in as many days, benefiting the Astros who've been resting since Saturday.

Whoever wins advances to the ALCS will have a tough test. The Astros are 15-6 in their last 21 home games and had winning records against both potential opponents this season. Houston went 5-2 against the Yankees while owning a 4-3 record against the Guardians.

Rest is a weapon and the Astros have the chance to show that when Game 1 of the ALCS begins on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 7:37 p.m. ET.
