The Houston Astros start the second half of the season with a comfortable 9.0-game lead in the AL West, but trail the New York Yankees by 4.5 games for the best record in the American League and MLB for the right to home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

While Houston is expected to be buyers at the trade deadline in a couple weeks, they will be adding a major offensive piece back to their lineup sooner than that.

Yordan Alvarez Injury Update

Star DH Yordan Alvarez is expected back in the lineup on Thursday. Jose Siri is being sent down to the minors in a corresponding move. Alvarez hasn't played since July 9.

The 25-year-old star is in the midst of a monster season. He's hitting .306 with 26 home runs and 60 RBI, and leads the league with a 1.058 OPS. Simply put, he's been the Astros best hitter this season and having him out of the lineup hasn't done the Astros any favors, with just a 6-5 record over their last 11 games.

Getting Alvarez back will be a huge boost to this offense at the perfect time. Keeping tis team healthy will be paramount as Houston tries to catch up to the Yankees.

The Astros currently hold +450 odds to win the 2022 World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, which gives them the third-best odds in baseball.
