Angels Land Bullpen Upgrade With Former All-Star

With Shohei Ohtani set to be a free agent next winter, the Los Angeles Angels are hoping to make the playoffs this year before he potentially moves on. While their past offseasons have typically featured splashy superstar signings, this offseason has focused more on smaller deals with the goal of improving depth across the roster.
That includes the bullpen, which the Angels added to on Thursday by agreeing to a one-year deal with former All-Star Matt Moore.

Many baseball fans remember Moore from his time with the Tampa Bay Rays, where he looked like one of the more promising young starters in the American League a decade ago. He wasn't able to maintain his early success, however, and has bounced around a lot over the last few years, finally getting his groove back as a reliever with the Texas Rangers last year.
Moore was outstanding with Texas last season, posting a 1.95 ERA with 83 strikeouts across 74 innings while holding opponents to a paltry .564 OPS. He also racked up 2.4 WAR for the Rangers (per Baseball-Reference), which is a great number for a reliever.
Time will tell if the 33-year-old southpaw can continue his newfound success in Anaheim. If he does, he'll provide an immediate upgrade to the Halos' bullpen and play a crucial late-inning role for them.
