Andrew Vaughn Injury Update is Huge Relief for White Sox

Just over a week away from Opening Day and the official start to the 2022 MLB season, there's no worse time for Spring Training injuries.
The Chicago White Sox suffered a scare on Sunday when young left fielder/first baseman Andrew Vaughn went down with a troubling injury. The second-year slugger laid out for a fly ball before coming up short. He was ultimately carted off the field.

Fortunately, the White Sox classified this injury simply as "hip discomfort" as it appears Chicago dodged a major bullet.

All in all, it's a relief to see this injury receive a simple designation. Vaughn will be evaluated further, but it appears he avoided any major issues.
Vaughn was thrust into an outfield position last year following the injury to Eloy Jimenez. José Abreu holds a strong grasp on Chicago's first base role, but it was promising to see a talented prospect hold his own in the outfield a year ago.
The 23-year-old slashed .235/.309/.396 with 15 home runs and 48 RBIs during his rookie campaign. Vaughn played 107 of his 127 games in the outfield, giving manager Tony La Russa great flexibility.
