Alvin Kamara Injury Update Clouds Week 2 Fantasy Outlook
Alvin Kamara didn't look as dominant as he usually does in the New Orleans Saints' season-opening win. It was learned afterward that the Pro Bowl running back is dealing with a nagging rib injury. It's an issue that has caused him to miss practice this week and puts his status for Sunday in question.
Alvin Kamara Fantasy Outlook
Kamara was only present for the stretching portion of New Orlean's practice on Thursday and didn't take part in any drills. It was a concerning downgrade after he participated in a limited fashion on Wednesday. Kamara is clearly still experiencing pain, which is never good from a fantasy perspective.
This is a tough one for fantasy managers. If Kamara suits up, there's no telling whether he would be able to handle a full workload or not. He played in 62% of the offensive snaps in Week 1 and received 12 touches (46 yards). He now draws a difficult matchup against a stellar Tampa Bay rush defense.
The smart move would be to pick up backup Mark Ingram if he is still available. The veteran ball-carrier returned to practice on Thursday and would be in line to see increased touches if Kamara cannot suit up. He tallied 247 total yards and 1 touchdown in three games without Kamara in 2021.
The only other RBs on the Saints' roster are Dwayne Washington and Tony Jones Jr. Latavius Murray was also signed to the practice squad, which shows the team is preparing for the worst case scenario here. Keep an eye on any updates released on Kamara's status leading up to kickoff at 1 p.m. ET.
Prior to this injury news, Kamara was listed as the No. 9 RB in The Duel's Week 2 PPR fantasy football rankings.
