Alex Okafor's New Contract is Big Win for Chiefs and Okafor
By Max Staley

It's not often that NFL contracts can be a win-win for both sides, but the Kansas City Chiefs have had a knack for threading that needle recently.
#Chiefs DE Alex Okafor signed a restructured contract recently that clears over $2 million off KC’s cap this year and makes Okafor a free agent next March, per source. He’s now due a max of $4.96M in 2020, including $860K in per-game roster bonuses and $2M in incentives.

Alex Okafor's contract restructure is just the latest shrewd move from a man who has made a lot of them recently, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach.
Essentially, restructuring Okafor's deal clears more than $2 million in cap space for the Chiefs, while also ensuring the 29-year-old will reach free agency a year earlier. He can also earn another $2 million in incentives.

Clearing a few million in space is huge for the Chiefs, as the added flexibility could help facilitate necessary any roster moves brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Okafor, meanwhile, gets to reach free agency a year earlier, giving him a better shot at earning another lucrative deal before he ages out of favor.
